Many people in Ambala suffer from a urinary tract infection. It is a common problem. Some of the symptoms of a UTI involve:

  • Cloudy urine
  • Pink, red, or cola-colored urine
  • Foul-smelling urine
  • Pressure and pain inside the abdomen
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Chills and fever

If you face any such signs, you must consult a qualified urologist in Ambala immediately. Your signs may become worse if kept untreated, and it can grow into a kidney infection.

Your specialist will prescribe an antibiotic to cure the UTI. While you must follow any treatment plan your specialist provides, you must also find additional methods to relieve your signs.

Having that in mind, we have made a list of few foods you need to eat and avoid if you have a UTI.

Foods to Eat During a UTI

To recover from a UTI faster, you can try eating the foods mentioned below:

  • Cranberries: Although there are few doubts regarding its effectiveness, cranberries can counter a UTI. Cranberries have proanthocyanidin. It can stop and decrease infection-causing bacteria from developing in the lining of the urinary tract. You can go for sugar-free cranberry juice as well.
  • Other berries: Researches show that blueberries and raspberries may have a similar effect as cranberries.
  • Probiotics: Try adding foods including pickles, sauerkraut, and plain Greek yogurt to your diet. It is because they contain good bacteria that can assist in countering an infection.
  • High-fiber foods: Foods that are rich in fiber like beans, bananas, lentils, whole-grain bread, oats, and nuts, can help to take out bad bacteria from your body. They stimulate regular bowel movements, which relieve little pressure off your bladder as well.
  • Salmon: Salmons has omega-3 fatty acids that can stop and decrease any inflammation because of a UTI. A fish oil supplement is a good substitute if you do not eat fish.
  • Water: Drink a lot of water when you have a UTI. Minimum twelve to eight-ounce cups each day can help remove the bad bacteria out of your body.

Foods to Avoid During a UTI

There are some beverages and foods which can worsen UTI symptoms. They include:

  • Sugary foods: Sugar can raise your infection, so do not eat foods rich in sugar and carbohydrates.
  • Spicy foods:  Spicy food items can irritate your bladder. So, it is better not to have them when you have a UTI.
  • Citrus fruits: Fruits rich in acids such as lemons, grapefruits, oranges, and limes can irritate your bladder. However, after recovering from a UTI, you should begin consuming them again as they have immunity-boosting vitamin C.
  • Caffeinated drinks: Although it is essential to remain hydrated when you have a UTI, doing so with caffeinated beverages is not the right idea. It is best to avoid coffee, soda, or other caffeinated drinks as they can irritate your bladder.
  • Alcoholic drinks: As caffeinated drinks, alcohol can irritate your bladder as well, so you should stay away from liquor, wine, and beer.
  • Artificial sweeteners: No evidence is available to suggest that artificial sweeteners can make UTI worse. However, they can raise other bladder signs for individuals with chronic interstitial cystitis to best if you avoid them.

Keep in mind, once you have your antibiotics prescribed, take the whole course. Do not stop, even if you feel better.

After your infection is gone, drink a lot of water, around twelve to eight glasses every day. This will remove the infections from your body.

While you have UTI and you feel like going, you must go and do not hold it. By doing so, you are merely delaying excess bacteria from leaving your body. Holding your urine can give the right environment inside your bladder for excess bacteria to develop.
